Day 32 Tuesday April 21st 2020

Health Secretary Matt Hancock, gave the daily briefing at Downing Street revealed that a potential coronavirus vaccine being developed by Oxford University will be trialled in people from Thursday. “The upside of being the first country in the world to develop a successful vaccine is so huge that I am throwing everything at it,” he said. It comes as the number of hospital deaths from coronavirus in the UK has risen by 823 to 17,337 people. 20 mill to be precise- where is that coming from?? And then this story raised one of my huge slug eyebrows !Imagine you’ve been sailing around the world, blissfully unaware of the global pandemic changing our lives. That’s what happened to Elena Manighetti and Ryan Osborne, who asked their loved ones to keep in touch – but not to share bad news. So after 25 days at sea, they attempted to dock on a small Caribbean island in mid-March. There, they found all the island’s borders were closed and discovered the world had been suffering from a pandemic they’d heard nothing about

The day started well with Matt and I ready for the day… however Luna wasn’t… she seemed very reluctant to go for a walk so Matt ended up working from 645am and I did my exercise instead. By the time I’d finished the children were too. Millen was getting himself organised for school so Eashan and I headed off to the common.

In fact Arushi called me about a minute after leaving the house asking if we’d wait for her so that was great. We decided to incorporate a bit of shopping which included an indulgent breakfast of croissants and pain aux chocs for the return to school.

The morning was spent with home school. Lots of technical issues and loads of focus issues!!! But we made it through the day !

If I’m being brutally honest it is just solid screen time, but it’s the best of a crappy situation so let’s be positive and also incredibly grateful for everyone the schools and staff are doing.

Matt actually drove to work today to pick up a parcel. Our laptop had stopped working and he’d ordered a part before lockdown….. which went to work. Now with everyone at home for at least a few more weeks we really needed to get the part… anyway he literally was back within what felt like 5 minutes. Another bonus of lockdown – no traffic!

Eashan had a lunchtime zoom call with his class to wish Lyra a happy birthday. Not much chat for them though as I think it’s all a bit over whelming!
Had a game of cricket on the common this afternoon

I bumped into someone I work with on the common ( as well as lots of other people hence the social side feeling fulfilled) – it was so bizarre seeing a work colleague after not seeing them or hearing from them directly… felt like another world almost! It will be very weird when we do all go back again!

After supper the boys had cubs and we had a few catch up calls. Arushi was relatively anti social tonight as was clearly stuck into a very good book!

We joked she was just missing a shawl as she looked like a little old lady next to the fire!

Positive Thought – All three kids seemed happy to be back at school so I’m sure a bit of structure will be good for them.
