Day 49 Friday May 8th 2020

Johnson is due on Sunday to detail how restrictions will actually be eased… 7pm on Sunday I think he’s going to be getting all Churchilly and preparing to give the speech of his life… however rumour has it that lockdown will be phased out slowly… so it just means these days briefings are all a bit pointless in my opinion as it’s all about Sunday- so today Dominic Raab was just stressing that changes will be modest and people should continue to follow physical distancing guidelines over the bank holiday weekend.

Ahhh yes bank holiday weekend. Today the bank holiday Monday we usually have in May has been swapped for today to celebrate the wonderful 75th anniversary of VE Day! It’s been lovely- lots of old stories and photos have been shared on neighbourhood whats apps. Even belleville have tried doing a virtual VE museum with staff singing us all a song ( surprisingly not a Vera Lynn number) and stories posted about their ancestors .. encouraging children to do the same… errr we failed there and just enjoyed the day! Lovely to have none of us working and it was sunny!

The day started off excitedly with news about the tip reopening! Our car is full of stuff we need to get rid of! They are socially distancing by having different regs going on different days so will try next week!

We headed off for a bike ride and thought we would hit Covent Garden as the residential areas were just getting busier and busier.

Amazing – completely
Empty!
Never seen this place like this before!
Never even noticed these movie memorabilia statues in Leicester Square before
So quiet!
China town
Trafalgar Square
Millen and Eashan are SO unbelievably relaxed when cycling and are not taking in any sites but continually nattering to each other! Today’s topic is all about what their idyllic house will look like- luckily they are going to let Matt and I stay in it anytime!

Today we were encouraged to have a socially distant street party!

So I didn’t have time to decorate, dress up or even play music but I was up for socialising….

None of my family were so I ended up taking some work with me…. it wasn’t sending off the right image
So I added a bottle
Of prosecco…
Bingo! Such a nice afternoon chatting to our gorgeous neighbours!
What a treat seeing friends and some who just happened to be passing too! Ahhh makes you realise we are social beings!

So a great day and such lovely weather and a remarkable day to remember what life would have been like 75 years ago.

Positive Note

Has to be the VE celebrations – there was even a programme on TV feature our local chemists and ice cream shop!! Also adore Earlsfield’s Message to the school. So sweet!
